Surry County, NC Roofing in the Foothills
Surry County climbs toward the Blue Ridge, and its roofs see more ice and snow than most of the Triad. We serve Mount Airy, Elkin, Dobson and Pilot Mountain with free written inspections and family-run roofing.
Roofing where the Triad meets the Blue Ridge foothills

Surry County sits just west of Stokes. Pilot Mountain, both the town and the state park, is close to King, and beyond it lie Dobson, the county seat, along with Mount Airy and Elkin. The land rises toward the Blue Ridge along the northern edge of the county.
That higher ground brings colder winters. Surry tends to get more snow and ice than the rest of the Triad, and the freeze-thaw cycle is hard on roofs. Snow that melts during the day can refreeze at the eaves overnight, back water up under the shingles and find its way into the house.
Jay inspects foothills roofs with winter in mind: the eaves, valleys and flashing, and the condition of any decking he can see. Whether you need a repair before the next cold snap or a whole new roof, you get a free written report and estimate first, with no pressure.
Our services for Surry County homes
The same four services we offer everywhere, with the foothills climate in mind.
Roof Replacement
New architectural shingle or standing-seam metal roofs over fresh underlayment, after a full tear-off and a decking check. Metal is worth considering where snow and ice are common because it sheds both well.
Roof Repair
Repairs for leaks that appear after ice and snow, along with damaged flashing, cracked pipe boots and wind-lifted shingles.
Gutters
Gutter installation and replacement, so melting snow and heavy rain drain away instead of spilling over at the eaves.
Siding
Siding installation and replacement for walls worn down by weather. Vinyl is a common option, and we cover materials during the estimate.
Why Surry County homeowners trust a roofer from King
We are a small company that keeps things simple and honest.
Jay does the inspection
The owner climbs up and looks for himself, then explains what he found in plain language.
Honest about repair or replace
If your roof has good years left and just needs a repair, we tell you that.
Everything in writing
A free written report with photos and a written estimate come before any commitment.
Work we stand behind
Our workmanship is guaranteed, and we finish every job with a walkthrough of the roof and yard.
Foothills weather and Surry County roofs
Elevation and winter weather make a few problems more common here than in the rest of the Triad.
Ice at the eaves
When snow melts on a warm roof and refreezes at the cold edge, it can build a ridge of ice that holds water back. That water can push under shingles and leak into walls and ceilings.
Freeze-thaw on flashing and boots
Repeated freezing and thawing loosens sealant and stresses flashing, pipe boots and chimney joints. Gaps that open over the winter often turn into spring leaks, and a timely roof repair closes them before they spread.
Snow and ice loads
A wet snow or a coat of ice adds real weight. Soft or rotten decking is more likely to sag under it, which is one reason we check the decking on every replacement.
Trees on wooded lots
Many foothills homes sit among mature hardwoods and pines. Ice-laden limbs can snap onto a roof, and fallen leaves fill gutters right before winter arrives.
How a job with us works
From your first call to the final walkthrough, here is how a Surry County roof job goes.
Step 1You call or send the form
Tell us what you're seeing: a ceiling stain, shingles in the yard, a gutter pulling away, siding that's cracked or loose. We follow up quickly to set a time to come out.
Step 2Free on-site inspection
Jay or a lead looks at the roof and the exterior in person, checking shingles, flashing, vents, decking, gutters and siding, and notes what they find.
Step 3Written report and estimate
You get what we found and what it costs, in writing, before any commitment. When a repair will do, we say so. Estimates are often ready the same day, though not always.
Step 4You decide, then we schedule
Take the time you need, compare quotes, ask about payment options. When you say yes, we book the crew and order materials for your home.
Step 5The work, with daily cleanup
The crew does the job and cleans up as it goes. Nails, scrap and old materials leave with us in our trailer.
Step 6Final walkthrough
We walk the finished work and the yard with you and answer every question before we call it done.
Surry County roofing questions
Do you come out to Mount Airy and Elkin?
We do, and to Dobson, Pilot Mountain and the rest of Surry County as well. Give us a call at (336) 971-3665 to get on the inspection schedule.
Does the colder weather change what roof I should get?
It is worth factoring in. Standing-seam metal sheds snow and ice well, and architectural shingles over good underlayment are a solid, lower-cost option. We will talk through which fits your home and budget at the estimate.
Ice built up along my gutters this winter. Is my roof damaged?
Not necessarily, but it is worth checking. Ice at the eaves can push water under shingles and pull on gutters. Look for stains inside and gutters that sag or pull away, then let us take a look. Our gutter work includes replacing gutters that have come loose.
What warranty comes with a new roof?
Two things. The manufacturer's product warranty depends on the roofing line you choose, and BlueJay's adds a 20-year labor warranty on our installation. Ask us for the written terms when we go over your roof replacement estimate.
Is winter a bad time to have my roof inspected?
No. Winter is when leaks from ice and freeze-thaw tend to show up, so it is a good time to find the source. When it is safe to get on the roof, Jay will inspect it and give you a written report so you can plan repairs before spring.
Where we work
