Roof Replacement in King, NC and the Triad

When patching no longer makes sense, we tear the old roof off, fix the wood underneath and install a new shingle or standing-seam metal roof, cleaning up every day.

What a new roof involves, and when it's time

Two-story home with stone accents and a new roof, pickup trucks in the driveway

A roof replacement means removing every old layer down to the wood decking, repairing that decking where it has gone soft, and building a new roof system on top: underlayment, flashing, vents and the finished surface. It is a bigger job than a repair, and it should be. Done right, it starts the whole roof over instead of fixing one trouble spot.

Most homeowners call us after the signs pile up: shingles curling or shedding granules, leaks turning up in different rooms, dark streaks on the shady side, or a roof that took a beating in a summer thunderstorm. Around King and the rest of the Triad, mature trees, humid summers and the occasional ice storm wear some slopes down faster than others.

Jay Bell inspects the roof himself and gives you a free written report and a written estimate before you commit to anything. If a repair will buy you good years, he will say so. If the roof is finished, he will show you why, then walk you through shingle and metal options that fit your house and your budget.

Why homeowners trust us with a full replacement

A new roof is one of the larger checks you will write for your house. Here is what you get for it.

  • The owner on your roof

Jay inspects the roof himself and works alongside the crew, so the person who quoted the job is there while it gets done.

  • Decking checked, not covered over

Once the old roof is off, we look at the bare wood and replace rotten sections where needed instead of nailing new shingles over a soft spot.

  • Shingle and metal options

We install CertainTeed roofing products and also build standing-seam metal roofs, so you can compare both before deciding.

  • A clean yard every evening

Old shingles go into our trailer, not your flower beds, and the crew cleans up at the end of every working day.

  • Written estimate, no pressure

You get the scope and price in writing, with time to read it, ask questions and compare other quotes if you like.

  • Payment options available

Financing and payment plans are available. Ask about payment options when you get your estimate.

What a full roof replacement includes

Every replacement is built from the deck up. The exact materials depend on the roof you choose, but these steps don't get skipped.

  • Full tear-off

We strip the old shingles and any extra layers down to the decking, so nothing old is trapped under the new roof.

  • Decking inspection and replacement

Every section of exposed wood gets looked at. Rotten or soft decking is cut out and replaced where needed, and we tell you what we found.

  • Underlayment over the clean deck

A layer of underlayment goes down before any shingles or panels, giving the roof a second line of defense against wind-driven rain.

  • Flashing at chimneys, walls and valleys

We flash the places where the roof meets chimneys, walls and other roof planes, since those joints are where water most often finds a way in.

  • Pipe boots and roof vents

Plumbing vent pipes are sealed with pipe boots, and roof vents are set into the new roof so the attic can move air.

  • Your choice of finished roof

Architectural asphalt shingles or standing-seam metal. We install CertainTeed roofing products, and your estimate names the materials going on your house.

  • Daily cleanup

Torn-off shingles go straight into our trailer, and the crew picks up nails and scraps at the end of each day, not only at the end of the job.

  • Final walkthrough

When the roof is finished, we walk the roof and the yard with you so you can see the work and point out anything you want checked.

How a replacement goes, from first call to final walkthrough

Six steps, and you know what is happening at each one.

Step 1Call and tell us what you see

Call (336) 971-3665 and describe the roof. We aim to get an inspection on the calendar quickly.

Step 2Jay inspects the roof

Jay walks the roof, looks at the flashing, vents and attic where he can, and takes photos and notes. You get a free written report of what he found.

Step 3A written estimate

Your free written estimate spells out tear-off, decking, materials and cleanup. Same-day estimates are often possible, and this is the time to ask about payment options.

Step 4Materials and a start date

Once you decide, we confirm your shingle or metal choice and set a start date, weather permitting. We will tell you what to move away from the house before the crew arrives.

Step 5Tear-off, new roof and daily cleanup

The crew strips the old roof, replaces decking where needed, installs underlayment and the new roof, and clears the yard at the end of every day.

Step 6Walkthrough and follow-up

We walk the roof and yard with you before calling the job done. If anything comes up afterward, call us.

Roof replacement questions we hear most

What affects the cost of a new roof?

The size and pitch of the roof, how many old layers have to come off, how much decking needs replacing and the material you choose all move the price. Chimneys, skylights and multiple roof planes add flashing work. Your written estimate breaks these out so you can see where the money goes.

Should I repair my roof or replace it?

If the problem is limited to one area and the rest of the roof is sound, a roof repair is often the better call. When shingles are worn across the whole roof or leaks keep showing up in new places, replacement usually makes more sense over the long run. Jay will tell you plainly which way he would go and show you the photos behind his answer.

Should I choose shingles or standing-seam metal?

Architectural asphalt shingles are a common choice on homes around here and cost less up front. Standing-seam metal costs more, and it suits some homes as well as barns and outbuildings. We install both and can price them side by side so you can decide.

How long does a roof replacement take?

Most homes take one to three days, weather permitting. Larger roofs, steep pitches or a lot of rotten decking can add time. We give you an expected schedule with your estimate and keep you posted if rain moves it.

What warranty comes with a new roof?

There are two kinds. BlueJay's offers a 20-year labor warranty on our workmanship, and we provide and explain the written terms with your estimate. That is separate from the manufacturer's product warranty, which depends on the product line you choose.

Do you offer financing?

Financing and payment plans are available. Ask about payment options with your estimate and we will go over what is available for your project.

Will insurance pay for a roof damaged in a storm?

Sometimes. Storm damage may be covered depending on your policy, and the call to start a claim goes to your insurance company. Our free written report, with photos and notes of what we found, can help when you file.

Can you replace my gutters at the same time?

Yes. Putting up new gutters with a new roof is common, since the roof edge is already open and both jobs share one setup and one cleanup.
